CHARACTER EDUCATION ASSEMBLY: HONESTY & TRUSTWORTHINESS

Forest Valley ES gathered once again to introduce the next character education theme for March: honesty & trustworthiness.  Ms. Rawes' grade 5 class prepared five skits that each demonstrated honesty in different scenarios.  Great job 5's!  Certificates were also given out to the recipients of the February fairness award.

BLUES IN THE SCHOOLS

Forest Valley ES had the great opportunity to take part in the Blues In The Schools program between February 28 until March 11.  The entire school enjoyed four different blues concerts featuring artists such as Drew Nelson & J.W. Jones, Jesse Green, Jason Fryer, Micheal Jerome Brown & The Mighty Popo.  A small group of students of all ages will also participate in a blues music workshop, where they will put together a blues performance to play for the rest of the school.

SHLOCKEY HAS ARRIVED!

Forest Valley students have received brand new shlockey boards to play at recess.  The boards were built by students at Ottawa Technical Secondary School, and they did a great job.  Kids began playing with the boards on Wednesday, February 23.  It's been a great success!  Come try shlockey with your friends next recess.  There will be grade 5 students there to teach you how to play.

LEGO CLUB

Forest Valley E.S. has a Lego club, where students learn new and exciting ways of building with Lego blocks.  Lately the club has been working with robotic Lego, with real motors and moving parts.  They took their Lego creation to a Lego Robotics competition over the weekend.  We interviewed them about it.  Keep reading...
Student Council: When did you start the Lego club?
Lego Club: In November, 2010.

Student Council: Describe what you've built with the Lego club for the competition last weekend.
Lego Club: We built a tiny robot.

Student Council: How did the competition go?  What were some of the highlights?
Lego Club: We made it to the second round, and earned second place.  Our robot had to scrape ice for 1 minute.

Student Council: What is the Lego club doing next?
Lego Club: Planning for the next competition.  We're using the same robot, but we're making improvements to it.
